ABOUT US >

Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport (PVT) supports people who have difficulties with transport due to age, disability, personal situation, or because they live in an isolated rural area with limited public transport. We also help community groups to benefit from social outings, for example youth groups, sports clubs, or other local organisations.

PVT has a small fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles which are available for the use of non-profit organisations and private groups who have at least one person with a disability amongst them. Our fleet includes accessible cars and small minibuses which are based around Pembrokeshire.

We are also delighted to announce that we have teamed up with Transport for Wales and Pembrokeshire County Council to launch a new service in Northwest Pembrokeshire called fflecsi, designed to help people get out and about by bus. Read more HERE

PVT works closely with other community transport organisations around Pembrokeshire, please visit the Useful Links page to find out more about them.

HISTORY OF PVT >

The Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport Association (PVT) began as a local initiative after the Pembrokeshire Stroke Club asked the Haverfordwest Lions to assist in transporting patients from Milford Haven to Neyland.

Following that, the need for a means of transporting people with disabilities and elderly people of Pembrokeshire to venues other than hospitals - and thereby supporting them to lead a fuller life - was identified. With a handful of donations from organisations such as the charity Scope (at that time known as 'The Spastics Society'), Haverfordwest Lions and The Pembrokeshire Stroke Club, the president of Haverfordwest Lions at the time, Ron Griffiths, brought together some of the groups involved in caring for people with disabilities in Pembrokeshire and showed them what could be achieved by combining forces.

The Trustees of the HTV/Telethon Trust readily recognised the potential of the collective efforts of those organisations involved and generously donated a vehicle for the benefit of the Elderly and Disabled in Pembrokeshire. Demand soon exceeded the capacity of one vehicle and a fund-raising campaign undertaken in 1993 raised £27,000 to launch a second vehicle. In 1996 an application to the National Lottery Charities Board proved successful and produced a third vehicle.

Mr Ron Griffiths was made an MBE for his services to PVT. It was his vision which led to the founding of PVT as a charity in 1998.

PVT currently has four minibuses and three accessible cars available to hire out. For more information on our minibuses click HERE.
